La Grange Working with State and Federal Agencies Regarding Air Quality

The Village of LaGrange has joined other communities from the region to express concerns and receive additional information regarding air quality reports involving the Sterigenics facilities in Willowbrook.  The Village has also received written information from Sterigenics as well as state and federal agencies regarding emission testing and data collection.

The Village has and will continue to be in regular contact with our state legislators and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) regarding this matter.  The IEPA has provided a website to provide more information to the public regarding Sterigenics, including links to related documents and resources.  The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has also provided a website and additional resources for residents.

The U.S. EPA will be hosting an open house and public meeting to provide updates on the agency's work to better understand air emissions of ethylene oxide from the Sterigenics facility in Willowbrook on Thursday, November 29, 2018.  The meeting will be held at Ashton Place, 341 75th Street, in Willowbrook.  An open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. to give the public the opportunity to talk one-on-one with U.S. EPA staff.  A community forum will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. and will feature a series of expert panels responding to questions the EPA has been receiving from communities and residents.  Staff from the U.S. EPA, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), State of Illinois and the Tri-State Fire Department will be present.  The U.S. EPA also will discuss their work to better understand risks from ethylene oxide emissions and plans for ongoing community information and engagement.  Questions can also be submitted on line at https://www.epa.gov/il/forms/open-house-and-public-meeting-ethylene-oxide.

According to state and federal environmental agencies, there is no immediate health threat to the Village.  The Village will continue to work closely with all parties to ensure there are no long term exposures to our residents.
