47th Street and East Avenue
The intersection of 47th Street and East Avenue is currently under all-way stop control and is in close proximity to the at-grade crossing of the Indiana Harbor Belt (IHB) Railroad at the west and south legs of the intersection. This intersection receives a high volume of traffic from all directions, including significant truck traffic from the quarry and adjacent industries. In August 2009, the Village contracted with the engineering firm, Kenig, Lindgren, O'Hara, Aboona, Inc. (KLOA) to complete a feasibility study for improvements at this intersection. The purpose of the study was to make recommendations for improvements and to determine if a signal is warranted at the intersection to enhance the operation and safety of the intersection.
