Building Code Update

This summer the Village will be updating its building codes. The Village's last comprehensive review and adoption of the building codes and related amendments was in December 1997. Updating of these codes ensures the Village is current with construction methods and public safety practices, and that these regulations are consistent with current practices, as well as local and state laws and regulations.

The Village's building codes are contained in Chapter 150 of the La Grange Code of Ordinances, along with administrative provisions related to building permits, property maintenance code, and other construction related regulations. A complete draft of the proposed Chapter 150 can be found here (PDF).

A copy of the proposed code books (2015 ICC codes and 2017 NEC) are available at Village Hall, and at the ICC publicAccess webpage (LINK).

Copies of the State of Illinois Codes that will be formally adopted are below:

State Energy Code, State Plumbing Code, State Accessibility Code, and State Life Safety Code.

Public Comment Period

The Village is currently welcoming public comments on the proposed codes and local amendments through June 30, 2021. Please email any comments to Building Official Mike DeLillo at mdelillo@lagrangeil.gov or mail comments to Village Hall.

Scheduled Effective Date - August 01, 2021

Following the public comment period and formal adoption, the new codes are scheduled to become effective August 01, 2021. Permit applications submitted after August 1, 2021 will be required to comply with the new codes.
