Additional Prevention

Construction Standards

La Grange has stringent stormwater management and grading requirements that are applied to home improvement projects that include constructing a new house, addition or planned development.  A grading and stormwater management plan must be submitted by a civil engineer that ensures stormwater is managed on the site and not adversely impacting the conditions for neighbors. Plans are required to address localized grading around the property and to reduce the impact of stormwater on the sewer system.  For the construction of a typical new house, stormwater management includes the installation of below grade retention systems, and site grading that's in compliance with local codes and generally accepted engineering practices. At the conclusion of the project, the home structure may be larger, but with proper grading and below ground storage, the parcel is reducing the stormwater load on the system and localized area.
