As a part of the Village’s cost containment efforts, we decided last year to leave the holiday lights wrapped around the street trees throughout the Central and West End Business Districts, thereby eliminating the operational cost of removing the light strands.
We are pleased to advise residents that a vast majority of the holiday lights remained operational. (This explains why the lights were turned on earlier this year — to observe and then replace damaged strands as necessary). As a result, the Village will not incur outside contractual costs to conduct the more decorative wrapping of trees along La Grange Road this year, saving taxpayers $12,000.
It is anticipated that the lights will need to be removed after this season, so that the light strands do not become embedded in the tree bark due to tree growth.
From this exercise, it appears that the Village will be able to implement this operational efficiency and cost-saving measure in alternating years.
