[ARCHIVED] Burlington Avenue Resurfacing Project - Construction Update

Burlington Avenue Resurfacing Project – Construction Update
The labor strike that resulted in the work stoppage on the Burlington Avenue Resurfacing Project has ended. The contractor plans to resume work immediately on the project. Weather depending, asphalt paving work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 22, which will require access to the entire roadway in order to place the first layer of asphalt. Parking along the roadway on both sides will be restricted during this operation. We anticipate that this work will take approximately 2 days to complete. Once the asphalt layer has been placed, parking along the roadway will be allowed.

Traffic will be allowed in both directions while the paving operations are occurring. Please obey all construction signage and personnel directing traffic through the construction work zone. The turn around driveway at the Stone Avenue Station will remain open.

Pedestrians should continue to utilize the existing sidewalks and designated crosswalks to access businesses and the Stone Avenue Train Station. The designated crosswalks along Burlington Avenue are directly across from the Stone Avenue Train Station and at Brainard Avenue.

Patrons of the local businesses along Burlington should utilize available parking on side streets when on-street parking on Burlington is unavailable. Enforcement of the parking restrictions on residential side streets will be relaxed for business patrons and employees while parking on Burlington is unavailable.

We recommend that commuters who normally utilize on-street metered parking spaces on Burlington Avenue for either the Stone Avenue or La Grange Train Stations find alternate parking during construction. Commuters should not park on residential streets as an alternative. There are several alternate parking locations available to commuters including the following:

Zone G – Hillgrove Avenue – Poplar Pl. to Gilbert Avenue - $25 / month
Lot 14 – Ogden Avenue and Locust Avenue (Next to Gordon Park) - $25 / month

Should you be interested in obtaining a parking pass for one of the above lots, please contact the Village’s Finance Department by calling (708) 579-2300.

Based on the current progress and remaining work, we anticipate that the project will be completed in the next three weeks. Please also note that a new State law became effective January 1, 2010, regulating the use of cell phones. When driving through a construction zone, cell phone use is limited to hands-free operation only and texting is strictly prohibited. The La Grange Police Department will be enforcing this new law.

As always we appreciate your cooperation during this project, and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions regarding the project activities, or have special needs that are of concern, please feel free to contact the Department of Public Works at 708-579-2328.
