The Village would like to advise the public that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad plans to reconstruct the Brainard Avenue railroad crossing. The project scope will consist of a complete replacement of the current crossing and track rails. The finished crossing will be widened by nine feet in order to better accommodate commuters and pedestrians.
A complete closure of the crossing will be required for this work starting at 9:00 am on Thursday, July 19, 2012 through Thursday, July 26, 2012.
Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be detoured on Burlington and Hillgrove Avenues to the rail crossing located at Kensington Avenue to the east. Signs will be posted in the area designating the detour route for motorists and pedestrians while the crossing is under construction. Should weather delay the project, the closure would occur on a subsequent day.
While the crossing is anticipated to be closed for seven days, the actual work will occur between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm due to train traffic during the busy morning and afternoon periods. Work will also take place over the weekend. Residents and businesses may experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the necessary work during these hours.
Commuters are urged to plan accordingly and allow enough time to use Kensington Avenue instead of Brainard Avenue. For more information please see the attached press release.
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. The Village will work with the BNSF as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Metra's Passenger Services Department at (312) 322-6777 or the Village at (708) 579-2315.
