The Village of La Grange Police Department has developed a Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) to educate La Grange residents and business owners about the structure and activities of the police department. The program is free. The CPA is not a “training” course but is an exciting “informational” class that offers a behind-the-scenes look into the La Grange Police Department.
The Citizen’s Police Academy brings the police and the community close together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant. The goal of the La Grange Citizen’s Police Academy is to strengthen the partnership between the La Grange Police and the community. Close interaction builds trust and confidence. By strengthening this relationship, a stronger team approach could be used to handle law enforcement issues that may challenge our community.
The Academy meets at the police station every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. starting on August 24, 2010. Using both hands-on and classroom instruction, each of the 11 sessions focuses on various aspects of police work. During the academy, participants will be given an opportunity to ride along with a La Grange police officer during a shift, process a crime scene, and observe the inner workings of the communications center.
