[ARCHIVED] Dead Bird Found in La Grange Tested Positive for West Nile Virus

The Village of La Grange has been informed by the Cook County Public Health Department that a dead bird, which was found in La Grange last week, has tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

No confirmed cases of human infection have been reported in La Grange.

Although the Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District coincidentally conducted spraying in La Grange last week (on or about August 7) and is continuing its other abatement efforts, La Grange residents, especially those with developing or compromised immune systems (such as families with small children and older adults), are urged to exercise caution when going outdoors and to take measures to mitigate the possibility of being bitten by a mosquito.

As an infected bird has been confirmed to be in the area, residents do not need to report any future dead bird sightings this calendar year.
