[ARCHIVED] Police Response to LTHS North Campus - 10/17/13

On Thursday, October 17, the La Grange Police 9-1-1 center received a call reporting a gun shot at the north campus of Lyons Township High School. This was reported at 4:13 PM and in less than 90 seconds the first Police Officers were on the scene and entering the building.

A call of this nature invokes a substantial police response and in this case police officers from LaGrange Park, Brookfield, Western Springs and Countryside joined the La Grange Officers already on the scene. Consistent with training for this type of response, the Officers formed teams to systematically search the buildings of north campus.

School and police officials worked collaboratively to ensure a safe transition of students and employees to secure areas while the search was on-going. At the same time, updates were being posted to the school website in an effort to keep parents appraised on the circumstances.

After a thorough search, all buildings were released at 6:25 pm. The conclusion was that no gun was fired and this was supported by the lack of shell casings, the absence of any odors of gun powder, the fact that there were no holes and no injuries, and that everyone was accounted for.

Police Chief Mike Holub praised the responding officers and agencies for their rapid response and well coordinated effort. In addition, the LTHS staff and Administration is to be commended for their support of the police effort, and in disseminating information on their website, almost instantaneously.
