[ARCHIVED] Com Ed Power Outage / Surge

Com Ed reports that the widespread electrical outage / surge that occurred on Friday, January 31 resulted from work being performed at one of their substations. Com Ed was redirecting the flow of a high voltage line at the substation, and during the switching, the outage occurred. Approximately 2,000 customers were impacted.

The time of outage was approximately three minutes (12:52 p.m.– 12:55 p.m.). The switching also caused some residual surging in other areas of the community.

If you experience a power outage please call Com Ed immediately at 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661). You can also use the Com Ed automated text messaging system by texting “OUT” to 26633.

If you see a downed or damaged power line, do not approach it. Please call 911.
