This morning, the Village of La Grange attended a meeting with Governor Quinn, Congressman Dan Lipinski, federal authorities and area municipalities regarding ongoing state and federal damage and recovery efforts as a result of the July 24 severe rain event.
On Monday, teams from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began the process of conducting damage assessments in Cook County. This work is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
The completed preliminary damage assessment will be used to provide evidence in support of the state's request for federal assistance, which Governor Quinn anticipates will be submitted to President Obama through FEMA officials early next week.
A timeline for a federal decision after the request is submitted by the state is not yet known. The Village will continue to monitor the progress of efforts to gain federal relief for flood recovery and will provide periodic updates as more information becomes available.
