The Village would like to advise residents that the Indiana Harbor Belt (IHB) Railroad plans to perform an emergency safety repair on the East Avenue railroad crossing just south of 47th Street. This safety repair is required in order to make repairs to the railroad tracks. A complete closure of the crossing will be required for this work on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm. Please note the east / west railroad crossing at 47th Street will remain open while this work is completed.
Signs will be posted in the area designating the detour route for motorists while the crossing is under construction. The detour route for this crossing closure will use 55th Street, La Grange Road and 47th Street. Traffic delays and back-ups are likely to occur. Please allow for additional time to account for these anticipated delays and let employees and delivery companies know of the crossing closure. Should weather delay the project, the closure would occur on a subsequent day.
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. We will work with the IHB as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to call either the Department of Public Works at (708) 579-2328.
