[ARCHIVED] Hanson Quarry Resumes Blasting Activities

Hanson Material Service Quarry has announced that they plan to resume normal operations, including blasting activities beginning Friday, February 20, 2015.

The Village continues to work closely with Lyons Township Quarry Council and Hanson Materials to collect information regarding blasting activities, tremors and other geological phenomena.

To assist with the collection efforts, Hanson Materials has retained the services of Northwestern University to take an academic approach in studying the matter. Northwestern University has installed monitoring equipment in the vicinity of the quarry. At our request, Northwestern University is also consulting with the Illinois Geological Survey. As preliminary information becomes available, we will advise residents. The Village also intends to share this information with its Environmental Quality Control Commission as a technical review body.

Residents should continue to use the Lyons Township Quarry Council hotline at 1-866-934-3278 to report unusual or disruptive quarry blasting. For Hanson Quarry please press #1. Alternatively residents can visit the Lyons Township Quarry Council website by clicking here which provides information regarding quarries operating in our area as well as information on how to file a complaint or comment regarding quarry activities.
