Please be advised the Indiana Harbor Belt (IHB) Railroad was unable to complete the planned track maintenance work at the 47th Street railroad crossing within the original estimated time frame. The IHB anticipates the work will take an additional day to complete. Weather depending, the IHB plans to complete the repair work on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm.
Similar to the repair work that was completed last week, the IHB is not planning to completely close the crossings to traffic for this work, but rather will leave one lane of traffic open in each direction while work is completed in the other lane.
Signs will be posted in the area alerting motorists of the crossing maintenance work. We recommend that motorists use alternate routes on that day (55th Street, La Grange Road, Ogden Avenue). Traffic delays and back-ups are likely to occur. Please allow for additional time to account for these anticipated delays and let employees and delivery companies know of the work. Should weather delay the project, the closure would occur on a subsequent day.
