Please note that the BNSF Railroad has notified the Village that the closure of the Kensington Avenue Railroad Crossing has been delayed due to emergency track work in another community. A complete closure of the crossing to both vehicles and pedestrians will now occur starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 through 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016.
The scope of work includes replacement of all railroad track, ties, crossing mats and asphalt in order to repair the track and to provide for a smoother crossing.
Traffic will be detoured on Burlington and Hillgrove Avenues to the rail crossings located at either Brainard Avenue to the west or Ashland Avenue to the east. Signs will be posted in the area designating the detour route for motorists while the crossing is under construction.
Residents may experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the necessary work during working hours - Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Commuters may experience train delays as a result of the work. For information regarding train scheduling please visit the Metra website at www.metrarr.com.
Children walking to and from school are to use the Ashland Avenue grade crossing. A crossing guard will be relocated to the Ashland Avenue crossing to assist children during the work.
Please note that schedules and work progress is weather dependent and subject to change as required.
