The Village would like to advise residents that Nicor Gas has submitted plans to the Village to replace gas mains in the area bounded by Burlington Avenue, Maple Avenue, the IHB Railroad, and 6th Avenue.
Nicor is replacing aging gas mains and other gas infrastructures in this area as part of an infrastructure improvement program called Investing in Ulinois: A Nicor Gas System Improvement Initiative. This work is expected to start next week and be completed over the next several months.
The scope of work will include replacement of aging gas mains, moving meters from the inside of homes to the outside, upgrading storage systems and improving the gas pressure delivery system. Generally, new gas mains and services will be installed on each block and to each home through a process called directional boring. Directional boring is a trenchless technology that reduces the amount of open cut excavation and subsequent restoration.
Once the gas mains and services have been installed, Nicor will restore all roadways, parkways, sidewalks and private landscaping. Work is generally scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Additional information regarding the gas main installation and impact on private gas service will be provided to you by Nicor.
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. We will work with Nicor Gas as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project.
