[ARCHIVED] Community and Crime Prevention Alert – Residential Burglaries

Over the past week, three residential burglaries have been reported in La Grange in the 800 block of S. Edgewood, 500 block of S. Brainard and 1100 block of S. Waiola. Similar burglaries have also been reported in neighboring suburbs. A task force of municipal officers has been initiated and is actively investigating these incidents.

The La Grange Police Department would like to provide Village residents with the following crime prevention suggestions to deter the possibility of a residential burglary:

1. If you observe an unfamiliar person, vehicle, situation or anything out of the ordinary in your neighborhood, please call 9-1-1.

2. If a suspicious person knocks on your door claiming to work for the Village, utility or construction company, and cannot produce appropriate identification, do not let them in your home or leave your home at the request of the individual. Immediately call the La Grange Police Department by calling 9-1-1.

3. Do not be fooled by individuals claiming to be refunding an overpayment or reporting a hazard to your home. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

4. Do not leave your doors unlocked to go into your yard with anyone that you do not know.

La Grange is a caring and community-oriented Village. If you hear or see anything that seems suspicious or out of the ordinary, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 immediately. Supply the best description possible to the 9-1-1 operator but do not attempt to confront the suspicious person(s).

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the recent residential burglaries to contact the La Grange Police Department’s Investigative Division at (708) 579-2333.
