The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has notified the Village that as an additional means to control adult mosquito populations and depending on weather conditions, they have scheduled mosquito spraying in La Grange the evening of August 3, 2016 between 8:15 p.m. and midnight for all areas west of the IHB Railroad.
The spraying is scheduled to begin at dusk and be completed by midnight.
The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District will continue to employ larval and adult mosquito control efforts as well as test for the presence of the West Nile Virus and other viruses.
For more information regarding Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District controls and recommendations for residents please visit their website.
The District posts a recorded message after 3:30 p.m. on their main phone line (708/447-1765) which residents can call to see if any adult control operations are planned for that evening.
La Grange residents are asked to help prevent mosquito breeding by eliminating standing water wherever possible. This may be accomplished by maintaining rain gutters and downspouts to prevent water retention in gutters; changing water in bird baths on a weekly basis; maintaining swimming pools (residents are encouraged to report any unmaintained pools); changing water in children’s wading pools at least once a week; screen rain barrels to prevent adult mosquitoes from depositing eggs on the water’s surface; properly disposing used tires for residents with four or fewer tires to dispose of, contact the District for assistance); aerate ornamental ponds and stock with goldfish or other surface-feeding fish which would feed on mosquito larva; and by removing containers which may accumulate water.
