As reported previously, various areas of the Village have had power outages stemming from the major outage on Thursday night, which originated at the Mc Cook station. While Com Ed was able to restore power temporarily that evening, numerous problems with Com Ed equipment have created a ripple effect for system reliability. As a result, generators are currently powering a significant number of residents and the business district while a permanent repair plan is developed and implemented.
Com Ed has established a command center and Village personnel have been actively involved in finalizing an action plan and putting that plan into motion.
For the next approximately 48 hours, Com Ed plans to make repairs and improvements that will eliminate the need for generators and also improve system reliability in the future.
The plans include the installation of new equipment just north of the tracks on Brainard Avenue, and repairs on Cossitt Avenue near 6th Avenue and also Ashland Avenue. Please allow for additional time to commute safely through these work zones.
Once the repairs are complete and the new equipment is tested, residential and business customers will be switched back to the power grid from the generators. The switch over is expected to take place tomorrow afternoon (August 15, 2016) if Com Ed believes they can do so without the risk of an outage occurring. If a risk exists, they plan to perform the switch on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Additional work that has already started to replace cables along Cossitt Avenue will continue. Com Ed reports this work will improve system reliability.
Thank you for your continued patience. The Village will continue to update residents as more information becomes available.
