Improving the reliability of the Village’s electrical system is a strategic initiative of the Village Board. Last week, President Livingston and members of the Village’s management team met with Commonwealth Edison leadership to discuss resident and business concerns with the electrical system in follow-up to the series of power outages that the Village experienced in August and ComEd’s plans to invest resources in La Grange to improve reliability.
ComEd has developed a three phase capital improvement plan that includes short term, medium term and long term equipment replacement and refurbishing projects to stabilize and improve system capacity. The plan has been provided to the Village and we are working with ComEd to implement the plan.
One of the most immediate and impactful projects will replace two 34 kV lines along Cossitt Avenue east of Brainard Avenue to Tilden Avenue. The scope of this work is in the process of being refined and the work is expected to be completed this November. More information will be provided regarding the scope of work once it is finalized.
In the medium term, ComEd will review and assess all 34 kV lines serving La Grange and identify opportunities for further system enhancements to improve reliability. ComEd will also review and assess all the circuits and equipment sourcing the commercial business district to improve reliability. The assessment, engineering and planning will be completed by the end of the year and the work will be completed before Summer, 2017. There will also be enhancements to the substations in our area.
In the long term, ComEd will continue to perform ongoing analysis to strengthen the system and improve reliability for La Grange. The additional study and analysis will focus on the substations serving the area as well as the 34kV lines and the distribution system. More information regarding these plans is anticipated to be provided in Spring, 2017.
The Village thanks residents and business owners for their continued patience. If you experience a power outage please contact Com Ed at 1-800-EDISON-1. In the event of an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
