[ARCHIVED] ComEd Underground Cable Replacement - Brainard Avenue and Cossitt Avenue

ComEd is in the process of making several immediate and extensive improvements to their electrical system with the goal of improving electrical reliability within the Village of La Grange.

This work has been coordinated between the Village and ComEd as a direct result of citizen concerns communicated to the Village, and upon a review by ComEd of its system performance records and condition of existing infrastructure.

The scope of work for this project includes the replacement of underground electrical cables that serve as the backbone for the electrical system in this area. The work involves the replacement of these cables under Cossitt Avenue from Gilbert Avenue to Tilden Avenue, and on Brainard Avenue from Hillgrove Avenue to Cossitt Avenue. Specifically, the work will include a combination of replacing existing electrical cables in existing conduit, and installation of new cables and conduits through open cut trenching in the roadway and directional boring.

The Village is working with ComEd to limit the damage to roadways and parkways by using existing conduits where possible. However in areas on Brainard Avenue and Cossitt Avenue east of Brainard Avenue, ComEd will be installing new conduits in the roadway to facilitate the installation of new electrical cables.

The work, including restoration, is scheduled to be completed by the end of November, 2016. This work is being performed by Meade Electric on behalf of ComEd. ComEd has indicated that residents should not experience any outages while this work is being performed.

Beginning Monday, November 7, 2016, Com Ed plans to complete the pavement restoration on Brainard Avenue from Burlington Avenue to Cossitt Avenue and on Cossitt Avenue from Brainard Avenue to Waiola Avenue.  This work is expected to take approximately one week to complete.

Traffic delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid the work zones on Cossitt Avenue and Brainard Avenue. Roadways are expected to remain open to traffic, however traffic lanes may be reduced temporarily to allow traffic in only one direction to accommodate the work. We request that motorists plan accordingly and exercise care when driving through the construction zone. Please note access to all driveways and roadways will remain open during the project. Once the work has been completed ComEd will restore all roadways, parkways, sidewalks and private landscaping.

Work is generally scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please be advised that all schedules and work progress are weather dependent. The Village will continue to work closely with ComEd to help facilitate ongoing equipment upgrades and other targeted improvements throughout La Grange to address areas with outage-related concerns. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. We will work with Meade Electric and ComEd as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project.

Should you have any questions about this project please contact ComEd project manager Mike Boss at (630) 576-6200. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Department of Public Works at (708) 579-2328.
