The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has advised the Village that the District will be spraying for adult mosquitoes on August 8, 2017 between the hours of 8:00 PM and 12:00 AM, weather permitting, covering areas west of East Avenue and east of the IHB railroad.
The Village typically receives notice of spraying activity in advance and will advise residents accordingly. The District lists all areas to be sprayed on a particular evening on its website and posts a recorded message after 3:30 p.m. on their main phone line (708) 447-1765, which residents can call to see if any adult control operations are planned for that evening.
La Grange residents are asked to help prevent mosquito breeding by eliminating standing water wherever possible. This may be accomplished by maintaining rain gutters and downspouts to prevent water retention in gutters; changing water in bird baths on a weekly basis; maintaining swimming pools (residents are encouraged to report any unmaintained pools); changing water in children’s wading pools at least once a week; screen rain barrels to prevent adult mosquitoes from depositing eggs on the water’s surface; properly disposing used tires for residents with four or fewer tires to dispose of (contact the District for assistance); aerate ornamental ponds and stock with goldfish or other surface-feeding fish which would feed on mosquito larva; and by removing containers which may accumulate water.
