The La Grange Police Department has issued a
press release in response to several reports of Burglary to Motor Vehicles over the past 24 hours. Sixteen reports of vehicles being unlawfully entered and ransacked between August 22 and 23, 2017 are currently being investigated. In each instance, the unknown offender(s) ended vehicles that were unlocked and parked on residential driveways.
An attempt to steal at least one of the entered motor vehicles was made. Some items and money have been reported missing but it appears that the offenders are primarily attempting to locate keys to steal vehicles.
The reported crimes are similar to those used in previous and recent thefts in nearby communities where the offenders sought unlocked vehicles to steal. The LGPD continues to work closely with our regional partners to identify suspects.
The La Grange Police Department would like to thank residents for their continued vigilance. Please continue to:
- Keep all vehicle doors and windows closed and locked at all times.
- Close all windows and the sunroof and do not leave keys inside the vehicle.
- Engage the vehicle's alarm system if you have one.
- Remove visible items of value (wallet, purse, electronics, etc.) from the vehicle.
As always, if you see any suspicious activity, call the police immediately by dialing 9-1-1.
