The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad advised the Village that the Ashland Avenue railroad crossing will be closed today, March 6 through Saturday, March 9 for an emergency repair of a broken rail. A complete closure of the crossing to both vehicles and pedestrians will be required to complete this work.
Signs will be posted in the area designating the detour route for motorists while the crossing is under construction. Traffic will be detoured on Burlington and Hillgrove Avenues to the rail crossings located at either Kensington Avenue to the west or La Grange Road to the east.
We anticipate that some delays will occur to Metra trains as a result of trains traveling slowly through the work zone. Please check with Metra for any changes to their schedule.
Work to repair the broken rail will occur between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm. However the crossing will remain closed at all hours until the repair is complete. Residents may also experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the necessary work. Children walking to and from school are to use the Kensington Avenue grade crossing.
The Village will work with the BNSF as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project. If you have any questions, please contact the Village at (708) 579-2300.
