[ARCHIVED] Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at the Brookfield Zoo

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, in conjunction with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Brookfield Zoo, will host a household hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, April 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the North Parking lot at the Brookfield Zoo located at 8400 W. 31st, Brookfield IL. This is a free service to all area residents. Waste must be dropped off in a car (no walk ins). Free zoo parking is available for participants.

Residents may bring any oil based paints, used motor oil, herbicides, drain cleaners, insecticides, lawn chemicals, pesticides, solvents, old gasoline, antifreeze, pool chemicals, cleaning products, hobby chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, mercury, double bagged and wetted asbestos, fluorescent lamp bulbs, old and outdated medicines and pharmaceuticals, automotive and other lead acid type batteries, electronics (no TVs).

Items that cannot be accepted are: latex paint, agricultural chemicals, propane tanks, household batteries, business/commercial sector wastes, smoke detectors, explosives, farm machinery oil, fireworks, fire extinguishers, institutional wastes, medical wastes, sharps, needles and potentially infectious medical wastes, and TVs.
