This year marks the 140th year since La Grange, Illinois was founded 13 miles west of downtown Chicago in 1879 by Franklin D. Cossitt. From a small planned community to the dynamic destination it is today, La Grange has always been welcoming.
The Village of La Grange invites everyone to attend a free 140th birthday celebration on Thursday, August 8 at noon outside Village Hall at 53 S. La Grange Road. The event will include local elected officials and civic leaders, who will cut a custom designed exclusive 140th La Grange Village Hall replica birthday cake. Because a birthday party isn’t complete without presents, the event will also feature giveaways for children and a drawing to win a $100 La Grange Business Association gift card. 140 tokens, each redeemable for a scoop at Tate’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, will be hidden around downtown.
The birthday party kicks off a month of events and promotions celebrating the Village’s 140th anniversary from August 8 -- September 8.
