The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) has issued a press release regarding the recent completion of two green infrastructure parking lots located at 53 S. La Grange Road and 20 W. Harris Avenue which use interlocking concrete permeable pavers that together retain nearly 95,000 gallons of stormwater per rain event.
Built over a soil and aggregate base and bedding layers, the pavers reduce stormwater runoff, clean and filter stormwater and improve water quality.
Funding for the construction of the parking lots was provided in part through an MWRD Green Infrastructure Partnership Opportunity Program grant. The parking lots also received an award from the MWRD for sustainable landscaping.
The Village has a commitment to furthering environmentally sustainable "green" initiatives.
