The Census is the basis for the calculation and distribution of Federal funds based on population, as well as congressional representation. The accurate count of all residents ensures that all communities get their fair share.
Residents will receive an invitation to respond to the 2020 Census between March 12 and March 20. Each household will have the option of responding online, by mail or by phone. Households can respond to the 2020 Census once they have received the invitation letter. Two reminder notices to complete the 2020 Census will be sent during March. Households that have not responded by early April will receive reminders and eventually a paper questionnaire. Although Census Day is April 1, both online and phone response systems will still be available for self-response until the end of April. In person follow-ups for households that have not completed the 2020 Census will start on May 13 and continue until the end of July. For more information on how to respond to the 2020 Census please visit the Census Bureau’s website (LINK).
If you are visited by someone from the Census Bureau, the field representative will present an ID badge that includes their name, their photograph, a Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date.
