[ARCHIVED] Village President - Letter to Residents - COVID-19 - March 15, 2020

La Grange

Dear Resident -

Dramatic steps over the past few days have been taken to accelerate social distancing in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and reduce the challenges to our first responders and health care system.  The Village and other community partners such as the library, schools, park district and senior center have cancelled public meetings and have either already closed public access to their facilities or are in the process of considering restrictions as a result of guidance received by state and federal agencies.

Stay Home

Please do everything possible to minimize social contact and slow the spread of the virus.  Even if you do not have symptoms, it is possible to spread the risk to older adults and people with underlying health issues.

Think about how you can utilize delivery options, as an example, from our local businesses as one way to continue to support our community while also practicing social distancing.

What if I think I am sick?

Call your doctor (do not walk into a healthcare facility) if you think you have been exposed to the virus or develop a fever and symptoms of a respiratory illness such as cough or difficulty breathing.

Village Services

There will be no reduction to essential Village services for critical emergency services, water distribution or refuse collection.  Some temporary changes to non-essential service delivery are in the process of being evaluated.  The Village has also established contingency plans in close collaboration with neighboring communities and other levels of government.  Residents should continue to call 911 in an emergency.

Check on loved ones and neighbors

As we practice social distancing, concerns about seniors and others becoming isolated are critically important.  Consider calling elderly neighbors or other vulnerable residents to check in with them.

Keeping La Grange Safe

Together we can care for each other during this time of challenge.  The Village Board, staff and I will continue to communicate essential information and welcome your questions and ideas.

On behalf of the Village Board, I want to thank our staff, first responders, health care providers, state and federal agencies, and sister governments such as the Park District, Library, Schools, Senior Center, business community and others which have been working around the clock to help keep our community safe, healthy, and vibrant.
