[ARCHIVED] La Grange Village President - Letter to Residents - COVID-19

Dear Residents -

As you know, Governor Pritzker’s stay at home order aims to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and lessen the potential overwhelming threat to our healthcare system and first responders.  La Grange is a beautiful community and our home.  It is easy to understand, especially when the weather is improving and spring is in the air, why we would want to gather near the fountain and in parks or playgrounds as we always have.  It is difficult for all of us to change our routine, but we all must find new, creative ways to communicate with each other from home.  Doing otherwise can place you, your family, your neighbors, and others at risk.  You are also risking spreading illness to the very people who are on the front lines of protecting our community’s health and safety.  Unless you need to leave home for essential services, medical care, or work, please stay home.

Our restaurants have expressed their appreciation to La Grange residents and residents of neighboring communities for continuing to support them during this difficult time.  We have relaxed liquor restrictions temporarily to allow for a greater variety of beverage options to be sold by restaurants in conjunction with food for curbside pick-up and carry-out.  Trader Joes and Walgreens are providing special hours for senior customers and customers needing extra assistance.  Hortons is also open for curbside pick-up of essentials.  Please continue to support our businesses as safely and as frequently as possible.

The Village website has also been updated to include links and information to help residents pay utility bills and extend the dates that water bills can be paid without penalty.  Please continue to use on-line resources to access Village services or call the Village at (708) 579-2300 with questions.  We have added new information to our website including resources for residents on how to help other members of our community at this time including health care workers, food pantries and social service agencies.  The State also has a list of volunteer opportunities including donating blood and assisting charitable organizations.  The State of Illinois is asking any retired health care workers or physicians in our community to please consider reinstating their license in the event more resources are necessary.  The State is also accepting donations of approved personal protective equipment.

I continue to offer my deepest gratitude to La Grange’s healthcare workers, grocery and essential retail workers, pharmacists, business community, and of course our Dispatchers, Police Officers, Firefighter / Paramedics and Public Works personnel.

Finally, I want to remind each of you to please respond to the invitation to complete the 2020 Census.  It is critical that La Grange receives an accurate count of our residents as it will set the per capita funding level that La Grange will receive from State and federal sources for the next 10 years.  If you have not received an invitation to respond or need assistance in filling out your Census form, please contact the Village at (708) 579-2300.

Please stay healthy / stay safe / stay-in -

Mark Kuchler
