The Village would like to advise residents that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad plans to reconstruct the Ashland Avenue Railroad Crossing. A complete closure of the crossing to both vehicles and pedestrians will be required for this work starting at 9:00 am on Friday, April 17, 2020 through 5:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2020. Work will include the removal and replacement of the track and asphalt pavement at the railroad tracks in order to provide a smoother crossing.
Signs will be posted in the area designating the detour route for motorists while the crossing is under construction. Traffic will be detoured on Burlington and Hillgrove Avenues to the rail crossings located at either Kensington Avenue to the west or La Grange Road to the east. Please be sure to let any delivery companies know of the crossing closure. Please note that all schedules and work progress are weather dependent.
While the crossing is anticipated to be closed for one week, the actual work will occur on Saturday and Sunday between 7 am and 6 pm, and Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm due to train traffic during the morning and afternoon periods. Residents may also experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the necessary work during these hours.
The Village will work with the BNSF as much as possible to minimize the inconveniences associated with this project. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at (708) 579-2328.
