[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd With These Activities!

Earth Day Drawing

Celebrate Earth Day Today - April 22!  The Village of La Grange Environmental Environmental Quality Commission invites you to color pictures and post them in your windows to honor the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.

Many organizations are providing "virtual" opportunities to learn more about the Earth this year.  For example, NASA has compiled a number of activities and events available to commemorate Earth Day At Home through its 50th Anniversary toolkit.  The kit includes videos, activities, maps and images of topics such as an earth science webquest, mapping of coral reefs, lego challenges, national park Junior Ranger activities, and satellite views to make your own Earth Day snapshots and animated GIF’s.

Additional ways you can participate:

  • Plan a garden - plant vegetables or add some native plants to your yard this year.
  • Start composting leaves, fruit, and veggie scraps in your backyard. There are a variety of compost bins you can have delivered to your house.
  • Read up on the environment - there are books for all ages.
  • Make a pledge to adopt one new healthy habit that protects the planet.  For example, use less energy at home, drive a fuel-efficient car, or create less garbage. Every action counts.

Wishing all La Grange residents a safe, healthy, and happy Earth Day!
