[ARCHIVED] Planned Demonstration in La Grange

La Grange

The Village has been made aware of a planned peaceful demonstration on Saturday, June 6 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in La Grange. The event organizer is a La Grange resident. The demonstration will begin at Village Hall and then head north on La Grange Road and then west on Burlington Avenue to the La Grange Police Department. La Grange Road will be temporarily closed between Cossitt Avenue and Ogden Avenue during the demonstration. Burlington Avenue will also be temporarily closed between La Grange Road and Kensington Avenue during the demonstration. The Ashland Avenue railroad crossing will be closed to through traffic as will Calendar Avenue and portions of Ashland Avenue to accommodate demonstrators. Parking for the demonstration is at the parking lot west of the intersection of Brainard and Burlington Avenue, or along Burlington Avenue west of Kensington Avenue. Level two and three of the downtown parking structure will be closed.

The La Grange Police Department is working with event organizers and partner agencies. We expect this will be a peaceful gathering and respect the right for people to peaceably assemble, but remind all participants that unlawful behavior will not be tolerated. Police will continue to have a heightened presence throughout the community.

Since the event may draw larger than typical crowds to the downtown area, and to ensure the health and safety of everyone, including event participants and other visitors, businesses should consider closing during these activities. Businesses are asked to remove all outdoor furniture from the sidewalk. Participants are reminded to wear face coverings and maintain six feet of distance where possible.
