[ARCHIVED] Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District - Mosquito Mitigation Efforts

Mosquito

The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has advised the Village that due to the detected levels of West Nile Virus, mosquito mitigation efforts are scheduled for this evening between 8:00 p.m. until midnight, weather permitting.  All residential areas in La Grange are expected to be completed this evening.

La Grange residents are asked to help prevent mosquito breeding by eliminating standing water wherever possible. This may be accomplished by maintaining rain gutters and downspouts to prevent water retention in gutters; changing water in bird baths on a weekly basis; maintaining swimming pools (residents are encouraged to report any unmaintained pools); changing water in children’s wading pools at least once a week; screen rain barrels to prevent adult mosquitoes from depositing eggs on the water’s surface; properly disposing used tires; aerate ornamental ponds and stock with goldfish or other surface-feeding fish which would feed on mosquito larva; and by removing containers which may accumulate water.

For additional tips on protecting your home from mosquitoes, please visit the Village’s website.
