The Village would like to advise residents that the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad plans emergency repair work at the East Avenue crossing, just south of 47th Street. The work is scheduled to occur on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. East Avenue will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic at the rail crossing. Please note that all schedules and work is weather dependent.
East Avenue and 47th Street will remain open to traffic north of the railroad tracks during the work. The Bluff Avenue interconnect at 47th Street will remain open for local traffic.
The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad and the Illinois Department of Transportation will post detour signage to direct motorists as follows:
- Southbound East Avenue to 47th Street
- Northbound East Avenue to 55th Street
- Plainfield Road - No Left Turn on to East Avenue
- 47th Street remains open to all east / west traffic
Motorists are asked to obey detour signage and speed limits, and to avoid cutting through residential areas.
Residents may experience a temporary increase in noise levels associated with railroad equipment performing the work and train horns passing through the work zones.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
