The Village’s urban forest is an important community asset providing many benefits that include cleaning our air, protecting our drinking water, and creating healthy communities. There are over 9,000 trees within Village parkways made up of over 100 different tree species. More information regarding specific trees including an interactive Village map of trees can be found in the Village’s tree inventory map. As a fun activity, look up the tree in front of your house and let people know what it is by using chalk on the sidewalk.
Each year the Village celebrates Arbor Day with one of the schools in La Grange as a way to formally recognize Arbor Day and the importance of trees in our community. This year, the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony took place at Spring Avenue Elementary School. In recognition of the Village’s efforts, La Grange has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for thirty-nine consecutive years, and also received the Tree City USA Growth Award.
