[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Preparedness - Information, Tips & Resources

Winter road with snow being plowed

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our region from Thursday afternoon through late Friday night. Blizzard conditions, winds of 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, and dangerous cold are forecasted. As conditions may make it challenging for travel, motorists are encouraged to increase stopping distances and plan for additional travel time. Individuals are advised to monitor local weather forecasts to ensure that they are prepared for emergent weather conditions.

Public Works crews are responding to changing weather conditions and are prepared to address winter conditions as they arise. Residents are reminded to remove vehicles from streets for at least 12 hours following the storm to allow for proper snow removal operations. Flood Brothers will conduct refuse collection beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday for residents south of 47th Street. Trash receptacles should be placed in the parkway and kept out of the street.

Suspected watermain breaks (often detected through running water in the parkway/curb line) can be reported to the Public Works Department at 708-579-2328 during regular business hours, or to the non-emergency number listed below after hours.  Power outages and/or downed power lines can be reported by calling 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661) or by texting the word "OUT" to 26633 (Com Ed). The text service allows for reporting outages and receiving restoration information. Customers can also follow Com Ed storm restoration reports on Twitter @ComEd or on Facebook at Facebook.com/ComEd. The Advent Health La Grange Hospital (5101 S. Willow Springs Road; enter through the Emergency Room), and Metra Train Stations at La Grange Road and Stone Avenue are available as warming centers through the weekend.

Dial 911 to report any emergencies and (708) 215-3586 to report any non-emergencies that occur outside of Village operating hours. For more information regarding snow and ice control procedures, visit the Village’s snow removal page. Information on winter storm preparedness can also be found on the Village website.
