At a Village Board meeting held on Monday, June 26, 2023, Steve Norvilas was appointed to the position of Fire Chief, and took the Oath of Office which was administered by Village Clerk Saladino. Mr. Norvilas has recently retired from the Pleasantview Fire Protection District where he last served as Fire Chief. He served in that capacity over the past four years, and as Deputy Chief for five years prior to becoming the Fire Chief.
Chief Norvilas has served for nearly 30 years in the fire service and has an extensive background in budgeting, administration, personnel management, short- and long-term planning, training, fleet management, capital purchases, policy development and other important skill sets.
Mr. Norvilas was identified as the top candidate following an extensive recruitment process lead by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA), which included an extensive assessment process and several interviews.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Steve to the Village and look forward to working with him in continuing to provide the residents of La Grange with excellent services,” said President Mark Kuchler.
Mr. Norvilas has served in professional and community organizations including as MABAS Division 10 President and is a member of several professional organizations including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Fire Protection Association, and Illinois Fire Chiefs Association. He received a Chief Fire Officer Designation in 2016 and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University.
