As part of the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad's (IHBRR) planned improvement work, the Cossitt Avenue railroad crossing is scheduled to close for approximately three weeks. Previously, the crossing was scheduled to close beginning September 11, however the IHBRR has revised their start date. The crossing is now scheduled to close beginning Monday, September 18, 2023. The closure will allow for reconstruction of the crossing, restoring the crossing surface and rerouting the carriage walk on the south side of the crossing, creating separation between the road and the sidewalk.
Notice boards will be posted at the crossing in advance of the closure, and detour signage will be placed throughout the area to direct traffic around the closed crossing.
